Alternative technique for changing from nasal to oral endotracheal tube for orthognathic and nasal surgery by using an airway exchange catheter: a case report

چکیده
A 28-year-old male patient with right maxillar, zygomatic arch, orbital wall, and nasal bone fractures had an orthognathic and nasal surgery. Naso-endotracheal intubation is the first choice during surgical correction of dentofacial deformities in an orthognathic surgery; however, its presence can interfere with concomitant surgical procedures on the nose. Traditionally, the naso-endotracheal tube will be removed and replaced with an oro-endotracheal tube. We changed the endotracheal tube from nasal to oral by using an airway exchange catheter.

Damage to the pilot balloon of the nasotracheal tube during orthognathic double-jaw surgery: A case report
In oral and maxillofacial surgery, many complications associated with nasotracheal tube can be caused. In this case, we reported ballooning tube damage of nasotracheal tube during orthognathic double-jaw surgery and replacement of tube through cut down of tube and tube exchange using airway exchange catheter. The patient scheduled for high Le Fort I osteotomy and bilateral sagittal split osteot...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of the Efficacy of Surfactant Administration through a Thin Intratracheal Catheter and its Administration via an Endotracheal Tube in Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Background: The cornerstone of the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is respiratory support and surfactant replacement therapy. The administration of surfactant through a thin intratracheal catheter is one of the methods used to reduce one of the standard technique complications of a surfactant injection (Intubation-Surfactant-Extubation method [INSURE]). The aim of this study wa...

In cases of multiple facial trauma and other specific cases, the anesthesiologist may be asked to convert an oral endotracheal tube to a nasal endotracheal tube or vice versa. Conventionally, the patient is simply extubated and the endotracheal tube is re-inserted along either the oral or nasal route. However, the task of airway management can become difficult due to surgical trauma or worsenin...

Purpose: To present a case where the Aintree intubation catheter was used in conjunction with the Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) and a fiberoptic bronchoscope (FOB) in a patient with an unexpected difficult airway. Clinical Features: A 38 year old 90 kg man scheduled for nasal endoscopy with ethmoidectomy under general anesthesia was found to be unexpectedly difficult to intubate using a both a MA...

To the Editor: We read, with interest, the recent case report written by Drs. Uria et al.1, and we agree with their assessment that it is important to perform a preliminary laryngoscopy prior to inserting a nasal tube. However, their recommendation to insert a bougie through the RAE® nasal tube, with its distal acute curve, can result in inappropriate bending of the distal portion which is unfa...
